Technical Chemistry in Nuremberg and subsequently Chemistry, receiving
a Diploma from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He went on to
earn his PhD in Toxicology from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg
in 2001. His thesis dealt with the Metabolism of Xenobiotics. He was
awarded a German Research Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship into
cardiovascular research. Volker then worked for the Bavarian State
Ministry of the Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection
before joining Munich Re at its Munich head office in 2003, as a
consultant scientist in the field of pharmaceutical risk assessment.
The Munich Re Group is one of the world's largest reinsurers and the
second-largest primary insurer in Germany. 5,000 insurance companies
in 160 countries rely on Munich Re's expertise and financial strength.
Volker’s primary
responsibility was to assess product liability risks in the
pharmaceutical industry for Munich Re and client underwriters. As a
chemist, he was especially involved in process, safety and loss-prevention
technologies. He gave underwriters scientific and technical advice on
issues relating to drug safety, the hazards arising out of dangerous
substances and long-tail chemicals exposures.
In 2008, Volker
joined Munich Re’s Special Enterprise Risks (SER) unit as a senior risk
analyst. SER is a new division of MARP, a 100% subsidiary of Munich Re,
responsible for direct industrial business. SER addresses new corporate
risks derived from advanced enterprise-wide risk management. His current
projects include finding solutions relating to clinical trials, pandemics
and the REACH regulation. |
